So far we have had four litters. We had heard from other breeders that the first litter from a female rabbit often does not survive. This sadly also turned out to be true in our case as well. We have never heard a good explanation as to why this occurs but in observing rabbit parenting skills on this and future occasions my guess would be that the first time mother rabbit has not yet learnt to look after her babies well enough and they simply die. Even in future litters Marie our doe will appear to pay little regard to the babies, but she must look after them during the night since ever since that first litter they have survived.
